Our History

On the 5th of January 1962, the Apo Golf & Country Club officially came to exist when 5 men incorporated themselves to become the first Board of Directors of the club. They were led by the Club's first President, Congressman Lorenzo Sarmiento together with Guillermo Torres Sr., Roberto Dakudao Sr., Rene Oboza and Antonio Solier.

Still, what is now the Apo Golf & Country Club would not have existed if not for the generosity of the late Carlos V. Inigo Sr., who volunteered 49 hectares of the Inigo estate for a token downpayment of only fifty-thousand pesos, with the balance payable in membership certificates. The golf course was soon carved out of the former coconut plantation.

With the land in place, engineering contractor H.R. Lopez together with Antonio Hernandez and Ricardo Gulanes helped plan and shape the golf course to what it is today. They were ably assisted by professional golfer Mateo Sanchez Sr., who oversaw all the work being done and to whom credit is given to for certain parts of the design. In April of 1965 the first 9 holes of the Club were inaugurated.

In June of 1968 the second 9 holes were formally launched through the almost single handed efforts of Conrado Alcantara. CA as he was most fondly called devoted much of his free time and resources to help finish the scenic 18-hole golf complex. With the design of Arch. Orlando Quimpo and the construction firm of Arch. Ramon Solitaria, the current golf clubhouse and its adjacent facilities were built.
The Golf Course
This par-72 championship golf course was carved out of a former coconut plantation and is characterized by tree lined fairways, expansive greens and numerous water hazards to challenge you. It is a place for everyone to experience the joys of sport & competition.
In 1995, the Club made history when it became the first golf club outside of Luzon to host the prestigious Philippine Open and it has remained so until today.

Its signature hole is the 11th, a short par-3 which requires a carry over water into a tight green guarded by bunkers on all sides.

The club is open daily from 5:30am to 5:00pm. Let’s Play!

History was made on the 23rd of February 1995 when the tournament was held in Apo Golf & Country Club, only the second time in its 80 year history that it was held outside of Luzon.

Professional golfers from all-over the world battled for the coveted trophy with Carlos Espinosa of Mexico emerging victorious after 4 days, shooting a - 6 under par 282 which remains one of the highest winning scores in the tournament's history. The high scoring output is a true testament to the championship caliber lay-out of the Apo Golf & Country Club.
